Wiley Band Awards
Band isn't just about learning music--it's also about cultivating personal responsibility, teamwork, and good citizenship. Each year at the Spring Concert, Ms. Thompson presents awards to students in each band who have consistently demonstrated high levels of musicianship and positive character traits throughout the year.
Awards include:
The Spirit Award:
Presented to a student in each band who consistently demonstrates a positive attitude and a commitment to doing their best at each and every band rehearsal.

2010-2011 Beginning Band: Teya Franks

The Progress Award:
Presented to a student in each band who has shown an outstanding amount of progress on his/her instrument during the past school year.

The Educator Award:
Presented to a student in each band who shows both a commitment to personal musical excellence, and a dedication to helping those around them as well. Recipients of the Educator Award consistently demonstrate kindness, patience, and a willingness to help their fellow bandmembers grow as musicians.

The Solid! Award:
The Wiley Band's highest honor, The Solid! Award is presented to two students in each band who have consistently demonstrated a commitment to growing musically, no matter what's going on around them in class or in everyday life. For young musicians, it's easy to make excuses for not practicing, or to complain about the music in class. However, Solid! students stay far away from these unbecoming practices, and simply keep walking the musical path, no matter what. And although they play well, Solid! students refrain from slipping into the ego-driven "diva" behavior that often plagues great musicians.
