At Band Camp, you have the opportunity to learn tons of valuable musical skills–and build a solid foundation for the rest of your musical life! Here are 4 things you can do to make Band Camp an excellent learning experience.

1. Arrive on time and prepared each day. - This is one of the simplest ways to succeed at Band Camp. Getting to camp on time ensures that you won’t miss any important information, and bringing your stuff means that you can participate to the fullest.

2. Listen. - Band Camp is packed with helpful information. You’ll learn musical skills, like how to assemble your instrument, make a sound, and play several notes and rhythms. Plus, you’ll learn several secrets about becoming an excellent musician. Since much of this will be new to you, it’s very important that you listen carefully at every rehearsal. The best listeners tend to become the best musicians!

3. Ask questions. - With all this new information coming your way, you may find that you get confused or need help with something we’re doing. If you have a question during rehearsal, raise your hand and let Ms. Thompson know! If you get confused at home, just write your question down and ask Ms. T the next day. Questions are welcomed in the Wiley Band.

4. Practice every day. - Even though you’re just starting your musical journey, it’s important that you practice your instrument every day. Ms. Thompson will give you a homework assignment to practice each day of Band Camp. If you go home and practice your assignment, you will become a better musician!

Band Camp is Coming Up! What do I do??

Posted in band camp, summer preparation, volunteering, what do I do?!? at 5:00 am by Administrator

Greetings, Wiley Band Families,

Band Camp begins on Monday, August 15th–are you ready to start a successful year in band? Here are 5 actions you can take to ensure that your child has a stress-free and positive band camp experience.

1. Communicate! – If you haven’t done so already, email Ms. Thompson with your child’s instrument choice. This will help her plan for the upcoming year!

2. Get an instrument. – All students must have their instruments, Standard of Excellence books, and supplies by Monday, August 15th. Students without instruments cannot learn to play!

3. Double-check the Band Camp schedule. Remember, our first three days of Band Camp are sectionals for beginner students only. Find out when your child’s sectionals will meet on the Band Camp page.

4. Figure out transportation for the week of Band Camp and beyond. – How is your kiddo going to get to and from Band Camp and regular rehearsals? Make a plan now to avoid stress down the road.

5. Volunteer! – We still have open spots on our Volunteer Calendar. Please sign up to support your child’s band!
